Introduction :

Excess production of sebum by sebaceous glands causes oily skin. It is produced under the skin face. Sebum is not bad for your skin as it moisturizes your skin and keeps it healthy. But excess od sebum causes oil on your skin. This oily substance is made up of fats. Oily skin can lead to breakouts, acne, and pores. Changes in hormones and stress can be a reason for the excessive production of sebum. Many other factors like age, genetic variations can cause oily skin. Let’s see some simple and effective ways to get rid of oily skin naturally.

Causes of oily skin :

Many factors can cause oily skin. Some of the common reasons are

  • Age
  • Humid climate
  • Enlarges pores
  • Wrong skincare products
  • Bad skincare routine
  • Skipping the use of moisturizer

Symptoms of oily skin :

Home remedies for oily skin :

  • Honey :

The antibacterial and antiseptic properties of honey make it the best treatment for oily skin. Honey is a natural humectant that moistures your skin. Honey also prevents acne on the face. You can apply honey directly on the face. Using your fingers, massage honey on your face. Leave honey for 20-30 minutes and then wash it. Or you can make a honey mask.


Honey mask :

Mix one tablespoon of raw honey with egg white and stir it well. Then add enough flour to make a thick paste. Apply this thick mask on your face for 10 minutes and then wash your face.


  • Oatmeal :

Oatmeal is excellent for oily skin as it absorbs extra oil from the face. It also helps to cure dead skin. It is a powerful cleansing, anti-inflammatory, and moisturizing agent. It controls excessive production of sebum and prevents acne, irritation, and redness. You can mix oatmeal in water to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on the face for 20-30 minutes and then wash with plain water.


Oatmeal mask :

Mix 1 cup ground oats with hot water and one tablespoon honey. Mix ingredients well to make a thick paste. Apply this mixture on the face for 10 to 15 minutes. Then wash your face with warm water.


  • Lemons :

Lemons tighten skin pores and absorb skin oil. Lemon juice is full of antibiotics and keeps your skin clear. Lemon is also rich in citric acid. Citic acid in lemon controls the production of sebum. It also possesses antimicrobial properties that prevent acne. Mix two teaspoons of lemon juice with two teaspoons of water. Apply the mixture on the face with a cotton ball for 20 – 30 minutes. Then rinse it off with warm water.


Lemon mask :

Combine one egg white with one tablespoon of lemon juice. Mix the ingredients well to make a thick paste. Apply it on the face for 10 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water.


  • Aloe vera :

Aloe vera is the best soothing ingredient for oily skin. It also contains moisturizing properties that help in reducing the size of skin pores. If you have oily skin, then use aloe vera as it absorbs excess oil from skin and fights with bacterias responsible for clogging your pores


How to use aloe vera :

Apply aloe vera gel on your face. Leave the gel on face for 20 to 30 minutes then rinse it off. You can do it daily. Aloe vera can cause allergic reactions, so if you have not used it before. Try a small amount on your arm to test.


  • Tomatoes :

Tomato is rich in salicylic acid. This acid is excellent for acne treatment and also absorbs excessive oil from your face. It is also rich in vitamin B, antioxidants, and enzymes that work for healthy skin. Enzymes in tomato remove dead cells from the skin and reduce inflammation. You can directly rub tomato on your skin to get rid of oil, or you can make a tomato face mask.


Tomato mask :

Mix 1 tablespoon sugar with the pulp of 1 tomato. Apply the mixture on the skin for 5 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water. This mask of tomato will help you to get rid of oily skin.


  • Clay :

Clay absorbs skin oil and cures many skin problems. It is the best home remedy for oily skin. It also reduces greasiness and makes your skin brighten. The best way to apply clay is to create a clay mask.


Clay mask :

Add rose water in 1 tablespoon of clay to make a thick paste. Apply the clay mask on your face and leave it until it dries.  Then remove the clay with warm water. This mask also lightens your skin.


  • Cucumber :

Cucumber is another excellent remedy to cure oily skin. Cucumber absorbs extra oil from the face and removes acne. It also reduces dark circles, pigmentations, acne spots. It is rich in magnesium and vitamin A, so it makes your skin healthy and glowy.


Cucumber mask :

Take a mashed cucumber and one tablespoon yogurt. Mix both ingredients well. Apply this mask on the face for 30 minutes then wash with warm water.


  • Wash your face :

If you are suffering from oily skin, wash your face daily. If you don’t wash your face, sebum traps the dirt. But if you wash your face too much, it increases the production of sebum, so keep it in balance. Establish a proper skincare routine. Also, avoid using soaps with strong fragrance as it causes more production of oil.
